Season 6 Episode 06 - The Abyss

Xena and Gabrielle have planned to meet Virgil and his friend on a riverbank but when they get there they see blood everywhere. Virgil has been captured by a group of cannibal's and they have eaten his friend already. Xena and Gabrielle then get attacked by the same cannibals, still not knowing what has happened to Virgil, they fight the cannibals but Gabrielle hesitates to kill one (because of killing Korah in Legacy) and gets stabbed. Then she is thrown over a cliff into a river, Xena jumps in after her and manages to get her into a cave close to the river.

Gabrielle's wound is very bad and Xena can't heal it where they are. That night Gabrielle starts hallucinating and Xena realizes that she has to climb the cliff and get Gabrielle to safety. When she gets to the top Gabrielle is almost dead so Xena does her war cry which alerts the cannibals and when the get to them Xena hides and lets them take Gabrielle. Gabrielle is taken back to their settlement and is throne is prison with Virgil, she tells him that Xena must have a plan and that they have to wait for her. Meanwhile Xena, who does have a plan, is busy cutting down trees so that she can block the river as part of a trap for the cannibals. Back in prison the cannibals try and heal Gabrielle's wound and another prisoner explains it is because they don't want her flesh to go bad as she is on tomorrows menu. The next day the cannibals take Gabrielle out of the prison and cover her with an oil getting ready to cook her. Then Xena enters the campsite and sets Gabrielle, Virgil and the other prisoner free then tells Gabrielle to cut a rope at the top of the cliff when she tells her. Xena runs down to the bottom of the cliff and fights the cannibals then a few cannibals attack Gabrielle and Virgil at the top of the cliff. Gabrielle has to kill one of the cannibals to get to the rope, which she does, she cuts the rope and lots of water comes pouring through the river drowning all the cannibals down below. When it is all over Xena talks to Gabrielle and Gabrielle tells her that she knows she going to have to live with her mistakes no matter how bad they are.
