Season 5 Episode 01 - Fallen Angel

Joxer, hearing that Xena and Gabrielle are in trouble, goes to the place where they were crucified. He finds Amarice who tells him that they are dead after to getting over the shock Joxer is determined to take there bodies back to Greece and bury them. Meanwhile in the afterlife Xena and Gabrielle are greeted by two angels called Leif and Laura who plan to take them to get prepared for reincarnation, but disaster strikes and a team of demons from Hell, lead by Callisto, captures Gabrielle and takes her to Hell. They nearing get Xena too but an archangel named Michael saves her. Then Michael explains that there is a war going on between heaven and hell, but Xena doesn't care she only cares about Gabrielle and goes through a purification ritual and is turned into an archangel. Meanwhile in Hell Gabrielle has been forced to eat the fruit of hell and has turned into a demon herself. While all this has been happening back in the living world Joxer, Eli and Amarice have got back Xena's and Gabrielle's body from the Romans and plan to bury them there because they don't stand a chance in getting their bodies back to Greece. Xena and a team of archangels are ready to go to hell and get Gabrielle back, but Michael explains that Xena may have to give up her "light" to save Gabrielle's soul. This will relieve Gabrielle of all her painful memories and guilt, but will turn Xena into a demon. Xena agrees and they all go to hell. When the get there the Archangels free Gabrielle while Xena fights Callisto. After injuring Callisto badly Callisto tells Xena how much she hates her and how she will never stop hating her for killing her family. Xena's guilt over comes her and she gives her light to Callisto. Gabrielle manages to become normal again with the help of the Archangels while Xena has become a ruthless demon. The archangels explain what happened to Xena and Callisto and Gabrielle becomes furious. She asks to become and archangel and fight Xena, who will take over heaven otherwise, but Michael makes her past a test. She goes into a cave and sees Callisto, she forgives her for all her past crimes and this is the test she must past. Gabrielle is then changed into an Archangel and goes to fight Xena. The demons and Angels fight but the demons are clearly winning. Xena and Gabrielle fight each other and Xena starts to kill Gabrielle. Back in the world of the living Eli is visited by the purified Callisto who tells him that "Love is the Way" and together they heal Xena's and Gabrielle's dead bodies and bring them back to life. The war is over thanks to Callisto and Xena and Gabrielle are alive. Callisto's good spirit touches Xena's living body but it is unknown why at the moment. Then Michael tells Callisto that "it is time" and Callisto goes back to her family not remembering any of the bad things she has done and for the first time in years is truly good and at peace.
