Season 4 Episode 21 - The Ides of March

Xena and Gabrielle, still travelling with Amarice get attacked by bounty hunters, after defeating them; one of the hunters tells Xena that the bounty came from Caesar! But this time Cesar has an old foe of Xena on his side…Callisto. Xena decides now to end the battle with Caesar by travelling to Rome and killing him. Still worried about her premonition, Xena tells Gabrielle to stay with Amarice. As Xena travels to Rome, Gabrielle is captured by Roman soldiers along with Amarice and Eli! And taken to a roman prison camp. Xena's attempts of killing Caesar seem to be working as planned until Callisto intervenes leaving Xena only option to run, where Callisto follows and tells Xena of Gabrielle's capture leaving Xena to have to go and rescue her but as entering a Roman prison camp is almost impossible she tricks Brutus by twisting the future actions of Caesar making himself Emperor into a scheme that causes the death of his loyal friends including Brutus. Still not sure if what Xena says is the truth he takes the bait and as Xena gets closer to where Gabrielle is being captured Brutus travels back to Rome also and confers what Xena says with Caesar himself, Xena plan of twisting Caesar's actions work and Brutus believes his own death is soon to follow Caesar's appointment as Ruler, he then makes plans for the assassination of Caesar to stop his own death. Still attempting to stop Xena from rescuing her friend, Callisto offers her the choice of leaving her path as a warrior and Gabrielle goes free or risk Xena and Gabrielle's lives by sticking to her way. Xena trusts her warrior skills and goes and helps Gabrielle, Amarice and Eli to escape only to find they are out numbered by Roman guards after Callisto alerts them. As Eli and Amarice escape Xena is beaten and as Gabrielle watches her friend suffer she decides that her friendship with Xena is more important to her then the way of love, but her efforts of killing the Roman guards are in vain, her and Xena are recaptured and Xena vision comes true, her and Gabrielle are crucified side by side on Mount Omaro. Whilst in Rome Brutus's assassination works and as Xena and Gabrielle's crucifixion happens Caesar's is murdered by the senate that he is about to announce his ruler ship to.
