Season 4 Episode 14 - Devi

Xena and Gabrielle travel to India so that Gabrielle can try and find out the truth and meaning to life. When they are there the stop to watch a street magician called Eli. He starts to perform a trick, and even get Xena to try and prove it is not real magic, which she can't. But is trick goes horrible wrong and his assistant Maya becomes possessed. Maya starts to hurt people incl. Xena. Gabrielle restrains her and the demon floats out of her. The people in the village start to think that Eli brought forth the demon so Xena helps him get to safety while the crowd started to attack him. When he was gone the village started to chant that Gabrielle is a Devi. Later Gabrielle finds out that a Devi is someone with heeling powers and it was her who forced the demon out of Maya. Eli starts getting curious because all his life he has wanted to be a Devi and at one point he thought he was because he healed his uncle when he was a child but then realised he wasn't, as he could not do it again. Xena isn't so sure about Gabrielle's new healing power even after Gabrielle heals a large number of the town's people. Xena then learns of a story about a demon named Tataka who can also heal but she uses her powers to gain trust and then destroy. When Eli is attacked by one of the priest Xena realises that Gabrielle has been possessed by the demon Tataka and Eli is infact a Devi. When Maya was attacking people before Eli touched her then Gabrielle restrained her and the demon left, everyone then thought that Gabrielle was a Devi, but it was Eli's touch that got rid of the demon and she went straight into Gabrielle. Xena and Eli thought up a plan to get rid of Tataka but they couldn't kill her because then Gabrielle would die too. Eli helped Xena exercise the demon and then healed a very weak Gabrielle. Eli was now a good friend to both Gabrielle and Xena and they offered to let him join them but he didn't because he wanted to go and heal people and find out why he had this marvellous gift.
