Season 1 Episode 13 - Fire and Water

The SG-1 team make an unscheduled emergency return from the planet Oannes in a panic - they reveal that Daniel is dead, consumed in a column of flames. The survivors are in an excessive degree of shock, even Teal'c. They check out physically but Dr. Fraiser believes they should be kept off duty. A memorial service is held but SG-1 is still plagued with visions of Daniel's death.

Daniel wakes up on Oannes in an underwater base where he finds he is the prisoner of a large amphibious humanoid who seems insistent to determine the location of "Omoroca." When Daniel can't answer, Nem lashes out at him.

As SG-1 continues to mourn their lost comrade, Daniel slowly establishes communciation with the alien, who identifies himself as "Nem" and is seeking the whereabouts of his life-partner, Omoroca, who lived on Earth in Babylonia 4,000 years ago. He believes Daniel serves the Goa'uld (because of Teal'c's presence) and insists that Daniel tell him what happened to her...or he'll kill Daniel.

While Fraiser determines SG-1's minds have been tampered with, Daniel realizes he doesn't know enough about Babylonian history to determine Omoroca's fate. Realizing that Nem can tamper with memories, he asks Neme to use his technology on him but Nem is reluctant to damage his "resource." On Earth, Dr. MacKenzie uses hypnosis to unlock SG-1's true memories of how Nem stunned them, took them to his underwater base, altered their memories, then let them swim to the surface. Now knowing the truth, they plan to head back to Oannes.

Nem has agreed to use his memory-machine on Daniel. Despite the pain of the procedure, Daniel remembers how the "god" Belus (a Goa'uld) killed Omoroca. Nem goes to confront SG-1 as they arrive and Daniel manages to escape and gets to them before hostilities break out. Nem agrees to let them go and expresses his sympathy toward Daniel - they both have lost their mates to the Goa'uld. He promises they may meet again in the future and SG-1 departs.
